To us, being a sustainable company is not just about selling products that make our customers more efficient but also about doing things to make our community a better place. At HD Supply Facilities Maintenance, a group of volunteers called A Community Team (ACT) keeps a pulse on nonprofit agencies that help people and communities. A couple of times a year, ACT and other volunteers within our company get together and work on large community beautification projects for groups in need.

Recently we visited the Barrio Logan College Institute, an organization in San Diego that promotes the pursuit of higher education for low-income students, who are very often underrepresented in college. This amazing agency prepares disadvantaged youth for college through free academic enrichment, mentoring, and other services that they would not normally receive.

Our group of very hard workers spent their Saturday painting the interior and exterior of the building (with low VOC paint, of course), vacuuming, and sealing the building’s hardwood flooring. I thought I would share a couple of pictures of the work they did. Can you pick out two of our guest bloggers, Kelly Ogden and Chris Alvarez? This kind of effort does so much for the local community by revitalizing an older building and showing a local charity that we care.
