HD Supply Facilities Maintenance Supports Furnishing Hope

HD Supply Facilities Maintenance is committed to finding ways we can use our resources to build our communities and support our troops. We recently donated soft goods (including more than $83,000 worth of towels, sheets, pillows, and bath mats) to Furnishing Hope to be used in home installations and delivered to wounded warriors through other nonprofit organizations including the Naval Medical Center San Diego and Camp Pendleton, Marine Corps Trials, Orange County Stand Down, Veterans First, and Warriors Built.

HD Supply and Furnishing Hope recognize that many of our wounded veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan face a difficult transition back to civilian life. In addition to debilitating health conditions, they can experience financial stress and substandard housing conditions. Some leave the hospital to live in empty houses without furniture or other comforts. Their children may lack beds or the basic amenities that make a house a home.

Furnishing Hope is a nonprofit organization committed to helping severely wounded heroes who are transitioning from the hospital to civilian life. This nonprofit brings furniture and furnishings to the veterans’ homes to transform their living spaces into healing, comfortable environments. Their goal is to create a nurturing environment so the wounded warriors and their families can recover, adjust to a disability, and build their futures. Since 2011, in cooperation with the military, Furnishing Hope has furnished more than 200 homes for wounded military heroes, and has plans to furnish 100 more this year with support from the furniture company Living Spaces.

At HD Supply, our Be Involved committee and distribution center teams actively find ways to support charitable organizations across the country, particularly those that provide support to our troops, education programs for our youth, and building or rehab projects in our local communities.

“We continually look for opportunities to give what material we can to other nonprofit organizations,” said Aneeta Sharma, a senior logistics analyst with HD Supply who has helped coordinate logistics for distribution center donations since 2011.

“My job is to maximize the donation for charitable organizations by matching their needs with what we can give from our limited material and find the closest donor location,” said Sharma. “It’s very rewarding when I see the things they build with our materials, and our team goes the extra mile to get it done.” -Aneeta Sharma
